Orange blossom grows on the bitter orange tree, or “Citrus Aurantium,” in the Rutaceae family. The tree bears white flowers with a very sweet, pleasant scent. Since ancient times, orange blossom has symbolized purity and beauty. Intoxicating yet subtle, it was used to make crowns for young brides.
It was in the 17th century that orange blossom became popular in European courts, thanks to Marie-Anne de La Trémoille, Princess of the Ursins, who made extensive use of it in her beauty rituals.
